About PDF Vault

PDF Vault is an independent, privacy-first PDF suite that processes every document in your browser. Who builds it, why it exists, and how to get in touch.

PDF Vault is an independent PDF suite built and run by the PDF Vault Research Team. Every tool runs entirely inside your browser — no file you open here is ever uploaded, because there is no server to upload it to.

Who builds this

PDF Vault is made by the PDF Vault Research Team. We are a small group of independent developers and document engineers focused on browser-based document tooling — the kind of software where WebAssembly and the modern web platform replace the server entirely.

It is independent and self-funded. There are no investors to satisfy, no data to monetise, and no growth target that would ever be served by quietly starting to keep your files. The only revenue is Pro subscriptions, which is deliberate: when a free tool has no subscription revenue, the data usually becomes the product.

Why it exists

PDF Vault started with a recurring frustration: every time a sensitive document needed something simple — a merge, a signature, a page rotated — the free options all demanded the file be uploaded first, with no good answer to where it went next. The realisation that browsers had become powerful enough to do all of it locally turned that frustration into a product: the tool we actually wanted to trust with our own documents.

The general problem is easy to state. Every popular free PDF tool works by receiving your file. You upload a contract, a medical record, a tax return or a set of bank statements; it travels to a datacentre; a copy sits in third-party storage for somewhere between an hour and a day; you get a download link back. Nobody has to behave badly for that to be a genuine exposure, and on a managed work machine the upload itself can be a reportable event.

Browsers became capable enough to make that unnecessary. WebAssembly runs close to native speed, which means merging, splitting, compressing, signing, OCR and format conversion can all happen on the machine the file is already on. PDF Vault is that idea taken seriously across a full toolkit rather than a single feature.

How to check we are telling the truth

Do not take the privacy claim on trust — verify it. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and run any tool on this site. You will not see a request carrying your document, because none is made.

That is a stronger guarantee than a privacy policy can offer. A policy is a statement of intent about a file a company already holds. This is an architecture in which the file never arrives.

What we will not do

  • Add server-side processing. If a feature cannot run locally, it does not ship. That is a real constraint and it costs us features.
  • Invent social proof. There are no review counts or star ratings on this site, because there is no review system behind them.
  • Sell or analyse your documents. We could not if we wanted to. We do not have them.
  • Pretend to be bigger than we are. This is a small independent product, and where a larger competitor is genuinely the better choice, we say so.

Where we are honestly not the best choice

Very large files and heavy OCR batches run faster on server GPUs than on a laptop CPU. If you routinely process gigabyte-scale scan archives, a server-based tool will finish sooner. There is also no admin console, no SSO and no centralised policy control, so organisations that need managed document infrastructure should evaluate an enterprise platform instead. We would rather tell you that than waste your afternoon.
