Crop PDF

PDF Vault trims the margins of PDF pages in your browser, either by hand or with one-click auto-detection of the white border, without uploading the file.

Scanned pages often carry wide, uneven margins, or a stray strip from the scanner bed. Slides exported to PDF sometimes keep a thick white or black border around the actual content. Cropping removes that dead space so the page fills the screen or the printed sheet.

Set top, right, bottom and left margins by hand in millimetres or points, or let auto-detect measure the white border on the page for you and fill in a starting point to adjust. A live preview shows exactly what will be kept before you export anything.

Cropping changes what is displayed and printed; it does not delete the trimmed content from the underlying file, which is why it should not be used as a substitute for Redact when removing sensitive material.

How to crop a PDF's margins

  1. Load the PDF you want to trim.
  2. Click auto-detect to measure the border, or enter margins by hand.
  3. Check the preview and adjust any side.
  4. Choose whether to apply the same crop to every page, then download.

What you get

  • Auto-detect margins. Measures the white border on the page and fills in a starting crop for you.
  • Live preview. See exactly what stays and what is trimmed before exporting.
  • mm or points. Enter margins in whichever unit you think in.
  • Per-document or per-page. Apply one crop to every page, or trim just the first page.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping delete the trimmed part of the page?

No. Cropping changes the visible and printable area (the CropBox); the original content remains in the file. Use Redact in the PDF Editor if content needs to be permanently removed.

Will auto-detect work on a page with a coloured background?

It looks for a white border specifically. On a page with a tinted or dark background, set the margins by hand instead.

Can I crop different amounts on each page?

The tool applies one crop to the whole document (or just the first page) in a single export. For very different pages, crop and export them as separate files.
