PDF Vault removes password protection from a PDF you own by decrypting it locally in your browser, using the password you supply.
Password-protected PDFs become an obstacle the moment you need to do anything else with them: merge, sign, extract a page, or simply stop retyping the password every time you open a file you refer to daily.
Provide the current password and this tool produces an unprotected copy on your machine. This works on documents you are entitled to open. It is not a password recovery or cracking tool, and removing protection from files you do not own is not permitted under our terms.
Nothing you do here is uploaded. The file is read into your browser's memory, processed by WebAssembly on your own machine, and written straight back to your downloads folder. You can confirm it yourself: open DevTools, switch to the Network tab, and run the tool — there is no request carrying your document, because there is no server endpoint to receive it.
How to remove a password from a PDF you own
- Load the protected PDF.
- Enter the password that currently opens it.
- Run the tool to decrypt the document locally.
- Download the unprotected copy. The original protected file stays as it was.

Frequently asked questions
Can this open a PDF when I don't know the password?
No. It decrypts using the password you provide. Recovering an unknown password is not something this tool does, and we would not build it.
Is it legal to remove a PDF password?
For documents you own or are authorised to access, generally yes. Circumventing protection on someone else's document may be unlawful and is prohibited by our terms.
Does unlocking change the content?
No. Only the encryption layer is removed; pages, text, and formatting are unchanged.
